The Plaza Athenee Hotel is housed in a traditional 8-storey building, its façade enhanced with flower-filled wrought iron balconies. In the spacious lobby red and gold tones, terracotta wares, marble floors, glittering chandeliers, bouquets of flowers and panelled walls combine to create an impeccably elegant and welcoming atmosphere. It opens up onto an impressive and luxurious gallery area used as a tea lounge. The majority of the 187 guestrooms are decorated in an 18th century Louis XVI style, with attractive mouldings and classic furniture, while those on the top two floors feature Art Déco décor and furnishings. The hotel’s bar has two areas. The first surrounds a long illuminated bar made entirely of sculpted and sandblasted glass, resembling an iceberg. The second area is more cosy, with leather club chairs clustered on an immense tufted rug. Run by celebrated restaurateur Alan Ducasse, the hotel’s restaurant offers haute cuisine served in luxurious surroundings, with engraved glass doors and a gilded ceiling.
